Press Release Summary: Eight year-old Sarah was struggling at school and despite her mothers concerns, teachers were adamant that she was not dyslexic. After visiting an educational psychiatrist Sarah was in fact diagnosed as dyslexic and told that Vision Therapy would help her.
Press Release Body: Sarah had been falling behind at school since she began. By the time she was eight years old her mother was becoming increasingly concerned with her academic decline. Her mother recalls, I was convinced Sarah was dyslexic despite the school telling me she wasnt. So, I took her to see an educational psychiatrist who confirmed that she was actually severely dyslexic. He also thought she may have a visual perception problem, which is when I decided to book an appointment at Keith Hollands practice after hearing that they specialised in vision therapy.
Optometrist Clare Holland examined Sarah and remembers; Sarah was found to have poor convergence, low focussing skills, and weak pursuit (following) and saddadic (jump) eye movements, along with immature bilateral integration. She was prescribed reading spectacles, and started in-practice vision therapy in July 2007. On returning, Sarahs mother reported much improved reading and comprehension, in fact, shed gone up two levels.
Sarah had 15 sessions of Vision Therapy in the practice plus exercises to do at home. Her mother says Sarahs changed a lot and not just at school. Her reading has especially improved which has been thanks to a mixture of glasses and Vision Therapy. Shes now using a computer programme that Keith Hollands practice recommended ( to exercise her eyes) which she enjoys and uses three or four times a week.
Further information and interviews with Clare Holland are available on request.
